Satin Pillowcase Prevents Wrinkles

March 12, 09

A few days ago a good friend of mine told me that I should start sleeping on a Satin Pillowcase to prevent frizzy hair and the early onset of wrinkles!

So, of course I came home and did some research.  Here’s what I found:

Satin Pillowcases are not only soft and luxurious – but they’re also a budget-friendly way to give your hair a special treatment.

The smooth feel of satin may help to maintain your hair’s moisture balance, prevent breakage, split-ends, tangling and even frizz!

And, if that’s not enough, Satin Pillowcases may also help fight against the early onset of wrinkles, allowing you to wake up with smooth skin!

Has anyone ever tried this?  Please let me know your thoughts!

I’m a bit skeptical about this. I’ve worked in the textile/fabric industry and most commercial satins nowadays are made from synthetics such as nylon or polyester, rather than silk. There are a few big drawbacks to using these synthetic satins:
    1) they are not very breathable so sweat from your skin won’t evaporate off – we all know too well what happens when we wear pretty synthetic satin tops and don’t use enough deodorant! Sleeping against sweaty skin can cause irritation too.
    2) synthetics are notorious for causing static.

Because they are so smooth, they could have some benefits for your hair, but I think the risk of bad skin and increased static don’t outweigh the benefits. However, if you can find real silk-based satins then these drawbacks are minimized. I highly recommend silk sheet sets and comforters, but they can be quite hard to care for.

Last week I was watching the Regis and Kelly show and Kelly started raving about how she had started using a satin pillowcase. She said that her hair stylist had urged her to switch to satin because of the exact same reasons you list in your article. The stylist said it is so much better for your hiar and your skin. Kelly said that their entire viewing audience should stop what they were doing and order a satin pillowcase.

This morning, March 13th, I was watching the Rachael Ray show and she and the people that were on were her show were also raving about satin pillowcases and how great they are for you.

I took your suggestion and went to the A Touch Of Satin website, that you have linked to in your article above. I was impressed with the page they have that lists the benefits of sleeping on satin. I was surprised to read that the American Cancer Society recommends sleeping on a satin pillowcase. I was amazed at the beautiful prints that A Touch Of Satin has for their pillowcases. I bought a set and should have them in a few days. I’m excited and can’t wait to sleep on them.

Thanks for the great article and thanks so much for the recommendation. I’m sure that I will love them!

Thanks for publishing this article. Lot’s of people have been talking about how beneficial satin is for hair and skin. I finally ordered mine from a website (Neero-Ana). I must say that I was more than pleased. I expected to get the flimsy polyester brand. These are luxurious and have helped my skin and hair.

Well it’s been almost four months since I followed your recommendation and purchased sain pillowcases. I went to A Touch Of Satin, as you suggested, and I could’t be happier. My friends have noticed a huge difference in my hair and my stylist said she could truly feel a difference, (not dry and frizzy). I also notice that I don’t have those pillow lines on my face in the morning when I wake up. Besides all of that, they are so comfortable.

Thanks again, and I recommend your site to all of my friends!
