Q: Hi Sandy…I am confused as to how to choose a perfect shade of foundation. I have tried lots of times but always ended up with a brighter shade or darker one… (From: Krutee)
A: Want to find the right foundation for your skin tone and type? Well here are some easy tips and techniques to help you out!
Foundation is the most important product in your make.up wardrobe. I think this is one of the products that deserves your full attention! It is so important to invest time into finding the right foundation, because afterall, your face is the first thing people see everyday! So here are 3 easy steps to help you find the perfect foundation for your skin tone and type.
1. Know your skin type. (If you don’t know your skin type, ask, cause knowing is half the battle.) This will determine what Type of foundation you need. There are so many different types of foundations on the market, once you know what your skin type is, you will already begin to narrow down your search in finding the right foundation. (eg. if your skin is prone to acne and is oily, you will want to look for a foundation that is oil-free)
2. Decide what kind of Coverage you are looking for. If you are looking to conceal all the redness in your skin you will probably want to look for a foundation that has medium to full coverage. If you don’t like wearing a lot of make.up and just want a light weight texture to gently even out your skin tone then you might want to try a tinted moisturizer or a foundation that has light coverage. This is more of a personal preference, so choose whatever makes you feel the most comfortable.
3. Finding the right Shade for your skin tone. Now for the most important part. When choosing the right shade for your skin tone, remember that the right foundation colour for you is the one that just fades away into your own natural skin colour, and matches your skin tone exactly! If you are trying to add colour to your complexion, use bronzer, not foundation! You know you are wearing the right foundation when you don’t see it!! You should never be able to see a difference between your face and your neck!
- Tip: If you think you know the right colour for your skin tone, try picking up the foundation that is one shade lighter and one shade darker. With a q-tip, stripe one line of each colour on your jawline, then blend. The colour that fades right into your skin tone is the right one for you!
Don’t forget to ask for help! Most department stores will gladly sit you down to help you find the right foundation for your skin tone and type.
Well I hope this helps you out! And remember to always have fun while doing your make.up and don’t forget to wake.up and make.up!

The real test for a foundation is a couple of hours after the stripe test.
Foundations can change with your personal chemistry and darken or take on a different tint toward the end of the day.
Try it in daylight, wear it for a few hours. If it doesn’t look the wrong shade at the end of the day then it’s the right colour.
Sandy I love your videos…My ques is how to get dewy look with full coverage at the same time?
try the liquid foundation by the FACE SHOP, it will give you medium to full coverage and they also have make up base in violet and green, the green color is what i use to eliminate redness
Hi Sandy,
I have oily skin and pores. Can you recommend a mosturizer that won’t contribute to the oiliness of my skin and reduce the pores? Also I had an adverse reaction to a lip product years back and had left my lips with a look of stained brown lip liner on my lips. Could you recommend a product or technique that would help get my rosey lips back.

Hi Sarah,
I think the best way to deal with facial hair is by applying a liquid foundation in downward strokes, this will help to flatten all the baby hairs! I hope this helps you out! Thanks for comment!
