At-Home Hair Colour With Clairol Perfect 10

February 20, 12

I’ve recently teamed up with Clairol Perfect 10 – to help spread the word on an exciting opportunity happening this week.  I can’t say what it is yet – but trust me – you won’t want to miss it! (Yiippeeee) So, make sure to LIKE the Clairol Facebook page to get all the details as soon as they’re revealed!  And, stay tuned to happiface.com for a video I did with Clairol, which I will be uploading later this week :)

I was also asked to try Perfect 10 and give my thoughts on it.  However, since I don’t colour my hair (I’m trying to hold off as long as I can…however, it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to wait much longer – I can see new grey hairs everyday…two new ones, just this morning – Yikes!) So, I decided to help colour my friend’s hair and tell you all about our experience. Fun!

Perfect 10 by Nice ‘n Easy (approx. SRP $15.99) is a permanent colour crème that gives hair salon-inspired, high-speed, glossy colour in just ten minutes. And, 100 per cent long-lasting grey coverage – that lasts for up to six weeks!

MEET STEPHANIE

I thought my friend Stephanie would be perfect for this because she’s never tried at-home hair colour before – well…maybe once when she was 17 – but her hair turned purple and she got dye all over her face…so it doesn’t really count ;)

Her current hair colour (which she usually does in-salon every three months) was starting to fade – so she was looking to freshen up her colour, touch-up her roots and cover her two grey hairs (see below – stop it).

CHOOSE THE COLOUR
Since Steph’s hair was already really dark – we decided to go with Jet Black.  For best results – it’s always best to choose a shade that is one to two shades lighter or darker than your current hair colour.

Fun Fact:
Clairol Perfect 10 has a colour palette of 25 shades to choose from.

TAKE EVERYTHING OUT OF THE BOX, READ ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS AND DON’T FORGET TO DO THE PATCH (ALLERGY) TEST

APPLY THE COLOUR

To prevent staining your skin – apply a little bit of conditioner (not petroleum jelly) on the skin all along the hairline and around the ears.

Put on the gloves (provided in the box) and squeeze tube #1 (High Gloss Colour Crème) into bottle #2 (Colour Activating Crème).  Put the cap back on bottle #2 and shake well – for approx. 20 seconds.

Then remove the mixing cap and replace it with the PerfectColor Comb – or if you’re just doing a quick root touch-up you can use the applicator tip (whichever you prefer).

We used the PerfectColor Comb.  It was so easy to use – we literally just “combed” the dye through her hair.  We started at the front around the hairline – then finished with the back.  And, anytime we got dye on the forehead or ears (which surprisingly didn’t happen often – huge bonus!) we had a warm damp towel ready to wipe it off immediately.

And another thing that was surprising to the both of us was the pleasant smell of the product – it had a very little chemical smell, which you could barely smell during the application process.

Once we finished applying the colour – we put her hair up in a clip and left the dye on for 10 minutes (not 12, not 14 – 10 minutes, that’s all the time you need). We literally only had time for a quick cookie (I made my famous Toblerone Shortbread cookies the night before – Yum!) before we had to go rinse.

Fun Fact:
Perfect 10’s unique PerfectColor Comb has 14 tines to provide maximum colour distribution–five at the tip of each nozzle, five half-way down each nozzle and four at the bottom between the nozzles.

Fun Fact:

P&G Beauty’s perfumers created a custom fragrance with a floral bouquet of violet and rose, making the hair-colouring experience more enjoyable.

RINSE & CONDITION

When it comes time for rinsing your hair – you’re going to want to rinse it thoroughly until the water runs clear.  You don’t have to shampoo – but if you want to, you totally can.

Then gently massage a quarter-size amount of the ColorSeal Conditioning Gloss through your hair (we might have used a little bit more than a quarter-size – just cause it smelled sooo good!). Leave on for 2 minutes – then rinse off and blow dry (or air dry if you prefer).

And, Wow!  The colour was outstanding – it looked as though Steph walked out of a salon.  And, not to mention – her hair was incredibly shiny. Steph said she was amazed at the results and is totally converted!  And, with all the money she’s going to save by not going to the salon – she’ll buy a pair of shoes! ;)

Clairol Perfect 10 really does deliver high-speed, glossy colour in just 10 minutes.  I would absolutely recommend this hair colour – it’s a Definite-Must Try!

Hairdressers Against AIDS

November 24, 11

USE YOUR VOICE, USE YOUR POWER FOR A BEAUTIFUL WORLD WITHOUT AIDS.

Did you know that every single day two new people are infected with HIV in Canada?  If you’re like most of us, this statistic is a shocking surprise.  It begs the question:  How much do we really know about HIV/AIDS in Canada?

On December 1st (World AIDS Day), L’Oréal Professional Products Division and UNESCO invite you to participate in the 10th anniversary of Hairdressers Against AIDS (HAA): a global advocacy campaign in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

In the past year, the campaign has attracted the attention of celebrities, like Audrey Tautou, Monica Belluci and Diane Kruger. These starlets have dedicated their time and efforts into creating a Hairdressers Against AIDS 2011 Calendar:

The goal of the day is to “Use Your Voice, Use Your Power” and spark conversations about HIV/AIDS in Canada.  I was honored to be asked to take part on December 1st to mentor a team of L’Oreal hairdressing students to create an educational web video to help raise awareness about HIV/AIDS.  Stay tuned next week for my groups video!

Here’s How You Can Help: Use your voice. Use your power. Help spread the message for a beautiful world without AIDS!

Unfortunately, HIV/AIDS is still making the news 30 years after it was discovered…

THE FIGURES ARE THERE TO PROVE IT:
- 33.4 million people are currently living with the HIV/AIDS virus, in the world.
- Only 40% of people are aware of their HIV status.
- 2.7 million new victims a year become infected, half of them young people and children.
- 2 million people die of the disease every year

EVERY REGION OF THE WORLD IS AFFECTED:
- Africa (22.4 million)
- Asia (4.7 million), of which India accounts for half
- Latin America (2 million)
- Eastern Europe (1.5 million)
- North America & Western Europe (2.3 million).

12 MESSAGES TO SHARE ON PREVENTING HIV/AIDS:
1. There are only three means of transmission of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS:
- Unprotected penetrative sex.
- Blood to blood contact, particularly by means of hypodermic needles (sharing of needles by injecting drug users, accidental needlestick injuries    suffered by healthcare professionals).
- Mother to child transmission during pregnancy, labour or breastfeeding.
2. Someone who is infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, is said to be HIV-positive. Only the advanced stage of HIV infection is referred to as AIDS: Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.
3. HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, is not transmitted by mosquito or spider bites.
4. HIV can be transmitted from a HIV-positive mother to her child. The appropriate medical treatment can avoid the transmission of HIV.
5. An HIV screening test is the only way to ind out if you are HIV-positive or not.
6. There is no risk of contracting HIV from touching, kissing, living or working with someone who is HIV-positive.
7. HIV is not transmitted via the tears, sweat, saliva or coughs and sneezes of someone who is HIV-positive.
8. HIV cannot be contracted from sharing a bed, toilets, shower or home with someone who is HIV-positive.
9. Using a condom to engage in protected sex protects against the risk of contracting HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
10. Treatments for HIV, known as antiretroviral treatments, prevent the virus from multiplying and reduce the onset of opportunistic diseases, thereby slowing the progression towards full-blown AIDS.
11. Knowing you are HIV-positive means you can benefit from the best treatment at the appropriate time.
12. It is important not to be alone when you are HIV-positive. Groups exist to provide information and support. It is also important to attend regular check-ups by HIV/AIDS healthcare specialists.

Kate Middleton Wedding Makeup

April 29, 11

Over 2 billion people watched the Royal Wedding this morning – as Kate Middleton married Prince William – in London, England.

Kate Middleton – now the new Duchess of Cambridge – looked like a true princess as she walked down the aisle at Westminster Abbey during her fairy-tale wedding.

Apparently, when it came to her makeup – Kate wanted to keep things simple – so simple that she opted to do it herself!!  Wedding planner Mark Niemierko said that Middleton had taken a series of private lessons with London makeup artists Arabella Preston in preparation for the big day.  And, Kate couldn’t have done a better job!  Her look was natural, elegant, sophisticated and fresh – she was glowing and looked absolutely beautiful!

Kate Middleton’s half up/half down hairstyle and flawless makeup matched her Alexander McQueen bridal gown perfectly.

Kate opted for a pink/grey colour palette which offered her a sophisticated appearance.  Pink is the perfect shade for brides because it instantly brightens the face, making it look fresh and flawless.  She paired her pink blush and neutral flesh-toned lipstick with a subtle grey smokey eye, which really made her eye’s pop and added depth to the overall look.

What do you think of Kate’s Hair & Makeup?

I hope you have a happi day!  And, don’t forget to Wake.up & Make.up!

New! ‘Enviro Cut’ at Phases Hair Studio

April 25, 11

Last week for Earth Day – I decided to try the new ‘Enviro Cut’ at Phases Hair Studio – located at 4712 Yonge Street (Yonge & Sheppard).

ABOUT

(Phases Hair Studio)

The ‘Enviro Cut’ is a new cutting technique designed to save time, energy and money.

Frank Tripodi, Artistic Director at Phases Hair Studio in Toronto and Wella Professional educator, understands his clients don’t have the time to spend all afternoon in the salon to get their hair looking great. So, to keep up with their on-the-go lifestyles, Frank has launched a service that promises to save time and money, as well as water and electricity.

“By the time you finish your latte I’ve already finished cutting your hair” says Frank, noting the service can cut up to 30 minutes of your time at the salon and 20% off the price.

The Enviro Cut is done on dry hair, eliminating the time and resources needed to wash and blow-dry. Frank says the hair is lightly misted with a leave-in conditioner, to add moisture during the service, but there is no need for the hair to be wet or even damp. He suggests clients arrive at the salon with clean and touchable hair to receive this service. (more…)
