Question: I absolutely love your blog! I need desperate help! I feel down because I never know what to buy and I really want to feel better about how I look…but there’s way too many products out there. Should I buy the cheaper or more expensive?…This brand or that brand?…it just goes on and on…Please help! (from: Anne)

Answer: Dear Product vs. Price,
This is one of the most popular question I get: Does the price of the make.up determine the quality of the product? And how do I know which products to buy, when there are so many out there?
The answer to this is simple. No. The price of the product does not determine the quality. Each and every make.up line out there has at least one or two “super star” products…meaning I can go to any make.up counter and find at least one or two, if not more, products from each line that I would put in my kit.

In my opinion, there is no make.up line out there, regardless of the brand and/or price, that will ever have everything we are looking for…In terms of product, price, quality, shade etc…For example not every line has an eye base or has the right shade of foundation that we need…because if there was, there wouldn’t be a million make.up lines out there, right?

With that said, of course, some products ARE made with higher quality ingredients, which in those cases it makes tons of sense why the price would be more expensive than the rest. However, not all the time does more expensive products mean better ingredients…so always remember that a lot of the times you are just paying for the name or packaging…which isn’t always a bad thing, if you love the brand or the way something looks…let’s say you’re a huge fan of a little pink bow on the end of your make.up brush that you must have!…and you don’t mind paying the extra $10 to do so, then do it! Because at the end of the day, make.up has to be fun!! There are so many products out there for you to play around with, so that you can find the perfect shade and/or colour for you…it is not made to make you stressed.

My biggest suggestion to you is to shop around…how fun is that!!!…and find that perfect colour for you…because with all the lines on the market there IS that perfect colour for you, and it is out there!!!…you two just haven’t found eachother yet! (why do I sound like I’m giving you advice on finding the right guy!!…haha)

You can tell whether the quality of the product is good or not, just by feeling it. So I suggest to always feel the texture of the product and read the ingredients before buying anything. Also, if you think that a product is really expensive, then ask, don’t be affraid to ask, why? The more you know about a product, the better!
