Tabatha Coffey: It’s Not Really About the Hair

On March 27th Tabatha Coffey, star of Slice Network’s “Tabatha’s Salon Takeover” was in Toronto for the ABA Show (Allied Beauty Association) to promote her new book about life, love and the business of beauty: “It’s Not Really About the Hair”.
I had a chance to catch up with Tabatha to ask her a few questions – Take a Look:
Sandy: What does success mean to you?
Tabatha: Success, to me, is being able to do what I truly love every day, and help people while I’m doing it.
Sandy: What advice do you have for someone just starting out in the beauty industry?
Tabatha: Realize that you’re your own best advocate and marketer, never stop furthering your education, and above all, be honest with yourself. You may realize that you need to take a step backward before you can take a step forward and be a really successful stylist.
Sandy: You’re all about “tough love” – why? And, how has this approach worked for you?
Tabatha: I never just give a harsh critique and walk away—that’s just mean. I believe in giving people honest feedback with the necessary tools so that they can overcome their issues and grow. That’s how I was trained, and judging by the success that I’ve been fortunate to enjoy in my salon and with my television show, it works.
Sandy: Have you ever endured a “tough” boss yourself?
Tabatha: All my bosses were tough in different ways, and I’m thankful to all of them; without their tough love, I wouldn’t have the success that I do, nor the really strong work ethic that made it all possible.
Sandy: What keeps you motivated and driven to keep doing what you do?
Tabatha: The love that I have for being a hairdresser and businesswoman, plus the fact that I truly want to help others succeed in their own businesses.
Sandy: If you could choose another career and start all over – what do you think you’d be doing?
Tabatha: Nothing. I couldn’t imagine doing anything other than what I am doing.
Sandy: What is your everyday wake.up & make.up routine?
Tabatha: I cleanse with my Clarisonic brush (image below) at night, so in the morning, it’s just a splash of water followed by a really good moisturizer. I keep my makeup pretty natural most days: just a little foundation, powder, blush, mascara, and lip gloss.
Sandy: What is your favourite hair and makeup product?
Tabatha: My favorite makeup is anything by Makeup Forever, especially their HD range. My favorite hair care product is K-PAK Reconstructor. My favorite styler is L’Oreal’s Elnett hairspray.
Sandy: What makes you happi?
Tabatha: Being able to work in a profession that I’m passionate about, and relaxing—when I actually get the time—with good friends and family.

- LOVE the packaging – the light green and white ribbons got my attention right away.
- Has the best scent ever – so refreshing and super invigorating!
- This product contains Salicylic Acid – which is a common ingredient in skin care products for the treatment of acne. It is especially great at exfoliating the skin deep within the follicle to help keep the pores clear of bacteria, and reduce the number of breakouts on the skin.

PRODUCT REVIEW: OLAY SKIN SMOOTHING CREAM SCRUB (Oil-Free)

- My new favourite product!!! My skin has never looked and felt better! A Definite Must-Try!!!
- I think it’s super important to use a face scrub and exfoliate your skin regularly to keep everything looking radiant, refreshed and smooth.
- The Olay Skin Smoothing Cream Scrub is a daily cleansing scrub that uses tiny ‘microbeads’ to remove makeup and exfoliate the skin. It has a nice light-weight creamy texture that felt really gentle – and left my skin feeling like soft silk. However, not everyone can get away with using a scrub everyday – so I would suggest to start once or twice a week and work up to every other day.
- Sandy’s Quick Tip: After a long Winter, my hands took a real beating. So, I thought I would try the scrub on my hands to see if it would make them feel softer – and it worked great. My hands felt like they just went on a two week cruise in the Caribbean – they were really Happi! ;)

- This morning I tried the Olay Skin Smoothing Cream Scrub :) I know you’ll find it hard to believe but I’ve never used a face scrub before – I’ve always thought it would be too complicated or would take too much time.
- I followed the simple directions and gently massaged the cream scrub on my face and then rinsed it all off. I imagined the tiny granules in the scrub were like a tiny team loosening all the dry skin away. My face felt instantly smoother and brighter.
- Since I am over 50, I probably would use this scrub no more than once a week, since I feel it would be too drying for me.
- It was so much fun trying all these great new products! :)

OLAY Foaming Face Wash is a daily cleanser that removes dirt, oil and make-up without over-drying skin.
WHAT IT DOES
OLAY Foaming Face Wash comes in two formulas – a foaming cleanser (pump) and a cream cleanser (tube) – to thoroughly clean skin of impurities.
THE FORMULA
OLAY Foaming Face Wash is available in three varieties:
Normal – Helps skin retain it’s natural moisture with oil-free moisturizers
Sensitive – Cleanses skin with it’s soap-free and oil-free formula, specifically designed for sensitive skin
Combination/Oily – Creamy lather cleans without over-drying (available only in cream formula)
HOW TO USE

PRODUCT REVIEW: OLAY FOAMING FACE WASH (for: Sensitive Skin)

- The Olay Foaming Face Wace for Sensitive Skin is oil-free and fragrance-free and comes in two formulas – a foaming cleanser (pump) and a cream cleanser (tube).
- I tried the cream cleanser in the tube – which did a great job at removing my makeup, and left my skin feeling super soft – which was awesome!
- I love that this cleanser gives you the option of purchasing either a tube or a pump – so, I think I would use the pump for at-home use and the tube for traveling.
- I did miss that this particular cleanser did not have a fragrance – so next time I think I would try the one for ‘normal’ skin. I find that using a cleanser with a great scent, really helps me start my day – it invigorates me.

- I was really excited to try the new Olay foaming face wash :)
- I tried the foaming cleanser in the pump – and followed the simple directions and massaged the soft lather onto my face and it felt so nice and smooth with just a light pleasant scent. After I rinsed it off with warm water my face felt soft and silky and not tight at all.
- My skin definitely looked brighter to me and refreshed!

PRODUCT REVIEW: OLAY 2-IN-1 DAILY FACIAL CLOTHS (for: Combination/Oily Skin)

- The Olay 2-in-1 Daily Facial Cloths are like a super convenient and portable face cloth and face wash all in one.
- You simply add warm water and rub the cloth together. Instantly you get an incredible lather that you don’t get when using a pre-moistened face wipe. AMAZING for travel.
- I really enjoyed how these cloths had two sides to them: the smooth side gently removes makeup – and the textured side has little micro-beads to exfoliate and deep clean the skin. I found that just one cloth was all I needed to remove my makeup – even on days when I was wearing a lot.
- My skin definitely felt rejuvenated, clean and fresh.
- Love the scent!
- The packaging says that you can use these cleansing cloths on your feet and hands as well – how fun! So, the next day I immediately brought them on set with me – where my hands get covered in all kinds of makeup – and I was easily able to clean my hands in between clients – I LOVED it! Plus it made my hands smell so good – which everyone commented on!!! I now carry some in a little Ziploc bag in my purse, gym bag and makeup kit! Fabulous!
